About Winery

Pegasus Bay was established in 1985 by the Donaldson Family who were pioneers of the North Canterbury wine region and are widely regarded as a leading producer of quality wine in the region. The home vineyard of 40 hectares, now over 35 years old, is located in the Waipara Valley on the free draining, low vigour soils known as the Glasnevin Gravels. These comprise of silt, loam and greywacke stone, washed down from the Southern alps over the millennia. The wines produced from this unique site are highly distinctive and consistently show impeccable, balance, concentration & complexity rarely seen. Seven members of the Donaldson family work in key roles in the business today. Pinot Noir and Riesling are key varieties with serval labels of each.
